Phil is husband to Corinne, a Dad, and foster Dad. Phil is the College and 20’s Pastor at First Baptist Spartanburg and Merge in Spartanburg, SC. Phil studied religion at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. where he earned a BA in Biblical Studies. He has also earned a graduate degree (PhD Prep) in Biblical Studies with honors from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, OH. He is a member of the National Honors Society for Students of Hebrew Literature and Culture and has written both Old and New Testament curriculum. Phil is currently working toward his Doctorate in Apologetics at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Phil has served as a Teaching Pastor, College & 20’s Pastor, Music Pastor, Youth Pastor, Men’s Ministry Pastor, Evangelist, and Missionary. He has served and taught in the U.S., the Netherlands, Haiti, Bolivia, Sudan, Mexico, Morocco, and Southeast Asia.
As a teaching staff member, Phil’s sermons have aired both locally (WSPA & The CW in Spartanburg/Greenville, SC) and globally as part of the broadcast ministry of First Baptist Spartanburg. As an Apologist, Phil has led apologetics and ministry related sessions at local, regional, and national conferences.
Phil currently serves on the Christian Life and Public Affairs Committee for the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
Phil’s passion is exegeting the Bible and teaching college students and young adults that Christianity is not simply a worldview they believe in, but is also true and intelligent. In his sermons Phil seeks to help his listeners know and understand the Bible in a way that causes them to live radically and sacrificially for Christ and for His kingdom.
